Gaborone, Botswana – March 2026
African Sun Energy continues to advance its role in shaping Botswana’s renewable energy future through participation in key regional innovation and knowledge-sharing platforms.
Recently, the company participated in the launch of the Scalar Botswana Innovation Program (SBIP), an initiative by the Botswana Innovation Fund designed to support scalable innovations and emerging technologies in Botswana.
The event, held at Hotel 430, brought together policymakers, innovators, entrepreneurs, and private sector leaders to explore how innovation, particularly in renewable energy and climate-tech, can drive economic growth and sustainable development.
The launch was officiated by the Deputy Minister of Communications and Innovation, Shaun Ntlhaile, who delivered a keynote address highlighting the importance of climate and digital innovation in shaping Botswana’s future economy.
Renewable Energy as an Economic Opportunity
During the event, a high-level panel discussion titled “Renewable Energy & Climate-Tech as an Economic Opportunity: Enabling Scalable, Bankable Energy Innovation in Botswana” brought together experts to discuss pathways for accelerating clean energy development in the country.
Representing African Sun Energy, Director Robert Hanna joined fellow industry leaders to share insights on scaling renewable energy solutions, strengthening investment opportunities, and building a sustainable climate-tech ecosystem in Botswana.
The discussion emphasized the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors to unlock investment, encourage innovation, and accelerate the deployment of renewable energy infrastructure.
Representing Botswana in Kenya
Building on these efforts, Robert Hanna also traveled to Kenya to participate in the UK–Kenya–Botswana Trilateral Learning & Knowledge Exchange Programme, representing Botswana’s renewable energy sector and contributing to discussions on sustainable development.
The programme brings together stakeholders from the United Kingdom, Kenya, and Botswana to strengthen partnerships, exchange knowledge, and explore innovative solutions for climate and energy challenges.
Throughout the exchange, participants engaged in discussions, workshops, and collaborative sessions focused on renewable energy innovation, climate-tech solutions, and strategies to support sustainable infrastructure across the region.
Kenya’s leadership in renewable energy development provided valuable insights into scaling clean energy technologies and creating supportive policy and investment environments for sustainable growth.
Strengthening Regional Partnerships for a Sustainable Future
African Sun Energy’s participation in both the SBIP launch and the trilateral knowledge exchange programme highlights the company’s commitment to collaboration, innovation, and leadership in the renewable energy sector.
By engaging with regional and international partners, African Sun Energy continues to contribute to the development of sustainable energy solutions that support economic growth, energy security, and climate resilience in Botswana and across Africa.
